Server Location and Webpage Loading Speed

One of the major complaints we often hear amongst people with websites are that their website takes a very, very long time to load up. There are many reasons why this can be so, i.e. bandwidth restrictions, large html/flash files, etc.. However, one of the simplest and most often overlooked reason is where their server is located.

It is common sense that if your target audience is in Singapore, hosting your website on a Singapore server will greatly improve your web page loading speed for your customers. It is no wonder that popular software are hosted on several website mirrors in different geographical locations to promote faster downloads.

If you are encountering slow web page load ups, why not start by checking out where your server is located? This article shows you exactly how……

I will begin with we should start by performing a Domain Name Server (DNS) query on your domain name. DNS query basically allows you to retrieve the Internet Protocol (IP) address of your website. To do this, will visit my favourite reverse dns tool set at DNS Stuff.

Look out for the DNS Lookup toolbox and fill in your domain name and click Lookup.
Server Location

You will get a listing of domain name records. Look for the one in the format of xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. That will be your IP address.
Server Location

Go back to the DNS Stuff home page and look for City From IP toolbox. Type in the newly found IP address and click Find City.
Server Location

Tada! You have found out the location in which your server is located. If it is not in Singapore and you are experiencing slowness in your webpage load up, that might very well be one of the reasons!
