Most of the time, our customers are confused about the kind of website they need. Internet and web technologies has progressed at such a very rapid and bewildering pace that it can get really confusing. There are many, many, many ways to use the web. Thankfully, based on our experience 90% of our clients, can be satisfied with a set of standard solutions.
One of the first thing we need to ask ourselves before we embark on a web project is… what do we want to achieve with our website.
BASIC NEEDS
- Establish a web presence so that clients can look up our profile over the internet
- Set up an email account with the company domain name to look more professional
If your needs are basic, you might just start off with a professionally designed 5 page website. These five pages will consists of your company profile, testimonials, services and a contact us form. It works somewhat like an online resume so that your clients can learn more about you before engaging your services. We strongly encourage the use of a professionally designed website as this will probably be your highest ROI investment.
CONTENT MANAGEMENT NEEDS
- Needs to update the website frequently
- Needs to provide a search function on the website
- Needs to segregate the website into private/public areas with member login
- Has a large amount of content, i.e. product list, etc.
If your business fits into any of the above cases, you will probably need a Content Management System (CMS) website. A Content Management Website gives you the flexibility to dynamically update your website through a backend administrative panel. You do not need to know any design skills to update the website as the backend system works in a similar way as Microsoft Words. If you can handle Microsoft Words, you should not have too much difficulty working with the backend administration panel.

ECOMMERCE NEEDS
- Need to collect online payments
- Need shopping cart facility
It all depends on how you will like to collect your payments. If you do not have many items, you can consider a form based approach in collecting the payment. One of our customers actually sell nutritional supplements online and her order form is based on a simple html page integration, see ProteinVitality.com. Of course, this might not be suitable if you require more sophisticated operations that involves a shopping cart. In cases like this, you would be looking at a full e-commerce package, see http://boonco.com.
SYSTEM INTEGRATION NEEDS
- None of the above
Well, of course there are 10% of clients whose requirements just do not fit anywhere. In this case, feel free to just drop us a note. Let us know your needs and we will try to help and advise you in anyway we can.
