This article is long overdue…. my clients have been asking me about how they could do simple updating of their website. Due to our hectic schedule, such requests, unfortunately fell on deaf ears.
Finally, enough is enough. Decided to write up something simple (in the wee hours of the night) and hopefully, this will give our customers the necessary information to perform simple updating of their website.
A word of caution! This is for simple textual updates….. If you need to do something complicated, it is definitely better to just use our design services….. no point tearing your hair out for something that you do only once or twice in your life.
Anyway, here it goes:
Step 1: Go to your webpage and identify the url of the page and the text you would like to edit.

Step 2: Open up your Internet Explorer and type ftp://8character.com in the address bar.

Step 3: Enter in your login name and password.

Step 4: Go into the relevant directory. For users with more than one domain, click on domains. For users with only 1 domain, click on public_html.

Step 5: Locate the file you would need to edit. The file name usually specified at the end of the url, i.e. http://8character.com/product.html will be indentified by product.html file. The only exception is index.html. If only the domain name is specified in the url, i.e. http://8character.com, then it automatically loads up the index.html file. Copy the file onto your desktop.

Step 6: Open the file with NotePad.

Step 7: Locate the words you need to edit and amend accordingly.

Step 7: Copy the file back into the ftp folder to replace the old file. Before doing this, please do a backup of the old file!

Step 8: Go to the url and see your changes! Sometimes, the content is cached in the browser. Click on F5 to refresh to see the changes.
